Fuerteventura travel guide

Fuerteventura, the oldest of the Canary Islands, originated 70 million years ago from volcanic activity. Its eventful past is evident in the variety of ancient buildings, archaeological sites and monuments. The long sandy beaches are no doubt Fuerteventura’s main attraction. 125 miles of sand with remote bays characterize the southern coast, while the north has amazing fine sand dunes including Carralejo and El Jable. The inner area consists of large plains, lavascapes and volcanic mountains, which make interesting excursions. Located in the Atlantic, only 60 miles off the African coast, Fuerteventura benefits from a mild and dry climate; temperatures range between 20 degrees centigrade in winter and an average of 27 degrees in summer. The constant light wind makes Fuerteventura an all year round spot for surfers. Other water sports such as sailing, windsurfing and big game fishing are also very popular.
